John Adams, a Founding Father of the United States, was an outspoken patriot and a very influential thinker. In 1776 he was appointed America’s first minister to the court of France. After his time in France, he returned to America and became a member of the Continental Congress. He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention and signed the Declaration of Independence.

In 1787, Adams became the second president of the United States. Adams also served as ambassador to Great Britain from 1785 to 1788. In his early years as a statesman he used to write poetry.
